Martín Chambi represents a turning point in Latin American photography in the first half of the 20th century. He dedicated his entire life to photography and his work was widely recognized in his time and in ours.
Of indigenous origin, Chambi (Coaza, 1891 - Cuzco, 1973) dedicated much of his life to photographing the Peruvian Andes, reclaiming the pre-Hispanic past through images of Inca ruins and portraits of life in Andean communities in the early 20th century.
For the first time we bring together in the same activity all our Photography School Partners. In a festive and relaxed atmosphere, we will award the best project of the year chosen from among the 7 finalist projects (one for each of our 7 Photography Schools Partner).
We will count with the participation of Lua Ribeira and a special message from Joel Meyerowitz, in an event presented by Daniel Mayrit and enlivened with the music of DJ Grande.
Within the framework of the ArtsLibris fair, and in collaboration with the Asociación Amigos de Eloi Gimeno, we will award the Eloi Gimeno Prize to the best photobook of this edition.
Eloi Gimeno's career revitalized Spanish photography, taking aesthetic risks, self-publishing, working with elegance in the design of his books and implementing collective creation processes.
As part of the celebrations for our 20th anniversary, we are opening our photobook treasure chest to show you some of the jewels, first editions, curiosities and remarkable books from our collection. You will be able to access to a selection of authors created especially for you in our library, during a small format session. Among them we will have Sandra Balcells, Richard Avedon, Colita, Ferdinando Scianna, Joan Fontcuberta, Sally Mann... and more.
It will be a unique experience to see some photobooks that are very difficult to access.
On the occasion of our 20th anniversary, throughout the year we will organize a series of visits to the conservation chamber where we house our photography collection.
On January 31st we begin our 20th anniversary celebrations with an open door activity from 4pm to 8pm.
We will celebrate our birthday by adding to our regular programming a series of proximity activities, which will take place throughout the year, and in which our team will be the host.
Conceived and organized by Foto Colectania Foundation in collaboration with A Bao A Qu Association, this educational project is promoted by Webhelp and Think Human Foundation and has the complicity of Pla de Barris de l'Ajuntament de Barcelona.
