Helena Almeida | Chema Madoz. Inhabited designs

-

Inhabited designs builds upon resonances between the works of two of the first authors to form part of the Foto Colectania collection, revealing their personal approach to the creative process.

The title of the exhibition pays homage to Helena Almeida’s Desenho habitado, the first series in which she used photography. We also drew upon the original concept of design in its Renaissance meaning, which refers both to the drawing itself as well as to the project and the mental process of translating an artist’s idea into work. A practice that accurately defines the fascinating work of these artists.

A multidisciplinary artist, Carrie Mae Weems (Oregon, 1953) is best known for her photographic work, which she has been developing for almost forty years. The exhibition reviews all her work chronologically and aims to highlight how the author approaches this practice as one ahead of her time and always projects her images into the future with a tireless sense of hope.

Curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, the exhibition will be shown simultaneously at the Centro de Fotografía KBr Fundación MAPFRE and at the Fundación Foto Colectania, where two important series The Kitchen Table, 1990 and And 22 Million Very Tired and Very Angry People, 1989-1990 will be presented, as well as a selection of video works.

Exhibition organised by Fundación MAPFRE in collaboration with Fundación Foto Colectania, Barcelona and Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart.

Within the framework of this project, the MACBA Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona presents the video installation Lincoln, Lonnie and Me.

Martín Chambi represents a turning point in Latin American photography in the first half of the 20th century. He dedicated his entire life to photography and his work was widely recognized in his time and in ours.

Of indigenous origin, Chambi (Coaza, 1891 - Cuzco, 1973) dedicated much of his life to photographing the Peruvian Andes, reclaiming the pre-Hispanic past through images of Inca ruins and portraits of life in Andean communities in the early 20th century.

Face Control

-

Foto Colectania presents a collective exhibition that brings together more than 20 artists - both established and emerging - whose works spin around the bidirectional control that relapses on the face: on the one hand, that which each person exercises over the way he wants his face to be perceived, and on the other, the way the forces of power try to exert over our identity.
